Irene Zanetti

Designation: Head of Communications, ALDA – European Association for Local Democracy

Irene Zanetti is the Head of the Communications Department of the European Association for Local Democracy (ALDA), dedicated to the promotion of good governance and citizen participation at the local level.

The communication campaigns and activities she leads target civil society and local authorities in the enlarged Europe fostering their cooperation, in order to empower citizens to be part of the decision-making process, thus making our communities better places to live in. Irene designs and implements communication strategies for the projects run by ALDA – over 150 since its establishment, several with very ambitious objectives and million euros budget.

Networking and managing relations with 300 members of the association from over 40 countries is an extremely stimulating challenge, as well as design and delivery of trainings on communication, storytelling, and citizens’ engagement. Irene managed communication strategies and activities in a variety of contexts, including civil society, the United Nations Mission in Central African Republic, the European Agency dedicated to public health (ECDC), private communication companies, and the political world.

She completed a master on “Public, Social and Political Communication Sciences” at the University of Bologna, Italy. Native Italian speaker, she is fluent in English and French.
